Outlook Edition Change Log
- Fix for bugs and efficiency enhacements related to Redemption third party product talking to Outlook.
- Fix for a bug in history tab related to Redemption third party product talking to Outlook. Error message was: Could not convert variant of type (Error) into type (Boolean). If your users are impacted by this error please request the newest version
- This version of ORP utilizes an upgraded version of Redemption, which is a module ORP uses to communicate with Outlook. Customers who were experiencing errors when ORP talks to Outlook will benefit from this release and this version of ORP is more fully compatitble with MS Office 2019.
- This version also disables the automatic customer registration process, which attempts to connect to our server every 45 days to validate the license or accept customer information. Note that customers can still click the refresh icon on the main ORP form in the upper right to force a sync to our servers to retrieve the support expiration date and other information about your license with us for ORP.
- This version of ORP uses the 4.x .NET Framework (prior versions of ORP used 2.0), which addresses the add-in not loading for Office 2016 and above and for newer versions of MS Windows 10 releases.
- This upgrade addresses an issue some users were sporadically experiencing when opening and editing file attachments, under the "Files to Review" tab. Users were experiencing the file attachment disappearing while recipients were in the middle of routing. Also a message was sometimes displaying stating that the file attachment you are trying to open is already in use and must be closed first (even though the file was not in use). This upgrade changes the way ORP reattaches documents users are editing from the routing slip, in order to address the top issues.
- When using the "Print Slip" feature, which creates a PDF of the routing history, ORP will now show on each history line, whether the user approved or rejected this routing slip to the next user. This is now displayed in a new column called "Status"
- Auto archive feature now includes the subject in the subfolder and file name that gets archived for easier tracking of each routing process
- Fixes a bug where once a skip status message has been sent to a recipient telling them that the initiator has removed them from this routing process, if that person was later added back further down in the routing process, then they were still not allowed to route.
- Fixes bug where when adding 10 or more files to a single routing process, if a user then removed file attachments on the files to approve tab, this would sometimes remove the wrong file.
- Mac and mobile module was not reflecting manually added or modified files--this version corrects that functionality
- Office Routing Plus Outlook version now has the first MAC and mobile routing functionality for any of our add-ins. To allow approvers downstream of the initiator to approve from a MAC or mobile device, initiators will need to enter an email address of a user who will be in charge of accepting forwarded messages from MAC or mobile users. This recipient address (which can be the initaitor or someone else) which is entered means that this user will be in charge of using ORP from Outlook on their client pc, to approve routed messages to the next recipient on behalf of the MAC or mobile user. MAC and mobile users will simply forward the routing message from their devices with the key word "orp approve". Each routing process can identify a recipient to use for this process.
- Please note that the MAC and mobile functionality will sell as an additional module for a very reasonable fee.
- Initiators may now set default comments on routing slips they initiate. This allows for special instructions to be defaulted in the body of routing messages.
- Added comments from the routing slip for each recipient to the "Print Slip" feature.
- PDF attachments were sometimes prompting to save to a location on disk when opening the attachment from within ORP and then trying to make a change to the PDF file. We have made an adjustment to help in some cases for this problem; however, there is still an issue with this on some machines and configurations of Adobe Reader. If users are still experiencing this problem, you can confirm whether the issue is related to ORP, by trying to open a PDF file directly from your local computer (rather than from ORP or even Outlook) and make a minor change and click save. If Adobe prompts for a save location, then this is a setting or configuration issue with Adobe Reader. Note, that the issue may be present when a software application for authoring Adobe Reader files is present alongside of the Reader application.
- ORP now has the ability to check for out of office situations when you add a recipient to a routing slip. Out of office is also checked each time a recipient chooses to route to the next recipient. Only available in Office 2007 and up.
- Initiators may now choose to "regain control" of a routing process that is stuck (i.e. a recipient is sitting too long on a message without routing it to the next recipient). To handle this scenario, initiators will be able to recieve a CC of each routing message (available as an option in advanced tab). Opening the last known CC message and choosing the "Force Route" option from that message will route to the next recipient and skip the recipient who has been sitting on the routing process for too long. The skipped recipient will be sent a special "skipped message" which has properties in it which will tell ORP on that user's computer to block this user from routing the original message that was routed to him/her. Optionally, the initiator may also choose to add a new recipient in place of the one that is being skipped, in case someone at the same level as the skipped person needs to approve the message before routing to the next recipient. The entire routing history and file attachments are preserved in the routing history and a special icon is used to show skipped recipients.
- Advanced tab has help text for several features and the ORP user manual has been greatly improved in this release.
- Comments from rejected routing messages are now stored in the comments tab, so that the person who rejected it and the initiator can see these comments preserved with the routing slip.
- ORP Outlook 1.09 introduced the ability to see status messages in history tab without the need to click on the status messages first. This is performed by a search and users with large inboxes were experiencing outlook hanging during this search when viewing history tab. This probem has been fixed in this version.
- When clicking the status alerts button in order to sign up recipients to receive status messages, there is now a new option to click a single button and have all recipients of the routing process receive status alerts.
- Changed wording at top of defaults settings page to make it more clear what this page is.
- While initiators can always show proof of a routing process by double clicking the outlook message itself, which is returned and marked as finalized, and then using the Print Routing Slip feature to preserve this routing information, this outlook message will likely just be in the initiator's Microsoft Exchange inbox and so will only be accessible to him/her. If your company would also like to have a document that can be saved on a central network drive somewhere automatically when the routing message is returned to the initiator, then use the auto archive setting. Note that file attachments associated with the routing process can also be auto archived to the same folder as the pdf which shows the routing recipient history.
Note that the initiator must click the finalized returned message (double click or single click) in his/her outlook inbox, in order for it to be auto archived. When the finalized message is returned and clicked, you will see a dialog confirmation that it has been auto-archived.
- Status messages that are emailed to routing initiators and those signed up for status subscriptions will now automatically appear in the user's History and Tracking tab without the need to first click on the status message. In previous versions, in order for the message to appear in the History and Tracking tab, it needed to be clicked on from Outlook.
- Flags and reminders are now cleared once the message is routed from a downstream recipient to next recipient
- The print routing slip feature (and new auto-archive report mentioned above) now produce a more simplified routing history report.
- Fixed a silent error that was occuring on the first few times using ORP on a computer
- Fixed a bug where ORP was trying to write errors to the windows error logger but non admin users didn't have permissions to do so. As of this version, ORP Outlook now logs errors to a file called errorlog.txt in the config files folder of ORP app data folder location
- A newer version of Advanced Installer is now being used to compile our installer package which may help with problems some users were having with ORP not loading on machines.
- Remembers the last folder you updated files from in the "add files" area
- Users may now add multiple files in the "add files" area by using the control key while using the mouse to select multiple files
- Added feature for the initiator to optionally lock down the ability for downstream recipients to add or remove from the recipient list set by the initiator. This is on the advanced tab.
- Added feature for the initiator to optionally lock down the ability for downstream recipients to add or remove the files set by the initiator. This is on the files to review tab.
- Added feature for the initiator to optionally lock down the ability for downstream recipients to modify the content of the files set by the initiator. This is on the files to review tab.
- If Adobe was already running and user attempted to open an ORP file under "files to review" tab, it would cause errors saying that the file was already in use and then the file was being removed from the routing slip. This error may only occur on users on 1.03 - 1.05. This issue has been fixed in this release
- Version 1.04 introduced a fix to this issue: File attachments that were not added by Office Routing Plus interface (such as gifs/jpegs in signature of email) will no longer show on the "file to review" tab in Office Routing Plus. After this fix, there was an issue where if an initiator started a routing process by first adding files under the files to review tab, prior to adding recipients, an error would occur when the message is sent saying "could not submit the message - error 0x80040607". As well, the files that had already been attached may disappear under the files to review tab. The fix for these issues is to either be sure initiators add files under files to review tab after adding recipients to the routing slip, or request this version.
- Further fixes to this issue: The final initiator was getting added twice to the bottom of the routing recipients list when using the favorites option and "final return recipient" was already saved as the last recipient in the favorites list. Once update or add slip was selected a second "final return recipient" was added to the bottom of the grid. This is now corrected in this version.
- File attachments that were not added by Office Routing Plus interface (such as gifs/jpegs in signature of email) will no longer show on the "file to review" tab in Office Routing Plus.
- If an application such as excel or word was already opened and a user tried to open a file attachment of the same application type that was already running, then an error would generate, forcing the user to first close the application which was already running and then view/edit the file attachment. In this version, users may keep any application running and still open and even change any file attachments when the file attachments are of the same application type that is already running.
- The final initiator was getting added twice to the bottom of the routing recipients list when using the favorites option and "final return recipient" was already saved as the last recipient in the favorites list. Once update or add slip was selected a second "final return recipient" was added to the bottom of the grid. This is now corrected in this version.
- More fixes put in place for apostrophes in file names, subject, recipients. 1.02 introduced some fixes for this problem, but more comprehensive fix for anywhere apostrophes can cause problems has been added to this release.
- If a routing message in history tab for initiator for some reason still shows under the incomplete filter drop down even though it has been completed, initiators may not manually force these to completed status
- If file names or subject of routing message contained an apostrophe, errors were occuring "incorrect syntax near...".. This problem is fixed
- The history database and corresponding history files may now be moved to a user specified location. Use the settings feature for changing this setting or see the Outlook manual for how to specify this setting manually in a text file.
- Suppressed errors that were sporadically showing when switching between messages in inbox or when switching from inbox to calendar view. Errors usually said "object moved or cannot be found" or something similar.
- Office Routing Plus Outlook is released as our first Outlook add-in. This product allows for routing pdf, Word, Excel, and any other type of documents, and any number of documents for review sequentially or all at once in parallel. Any number of documents may be routed in a single routing process. This product is compatible with Outlook 2003 and up to 2013.
